What I am Working On: Mexico City - July 15, 2026
A football trip with incredible food, ancient history, and a Vikings game to top it all off.
Mexico City – 9 Days
This month, I'm planning a Mexico City trip for clients who are combining two great reasons to visit Mexico — experiencing the city's incredible food, history, and culture while also catching the Minnesota Vikings take on the San Francisco 49ers. They've got a great mix of walking tours, local experiences, day trips, and plenty of authentic Mexican cuisine before finishing the trip with Sunday Night Football in one of the NFL's international games.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Mexico City Historic Centre
They'll kick things off with a guided walking tour through the heart of Mexico City, visiting the fascinating Templo Mayor, the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Museum of Fine Arts. There's also time to stop for lunch before heading back to the hotel after a full morning exploring the city's history.
Day 2 - Lucha Libre Night
Tonight is all about experiencing Mexico City's nightlife, starting with either street tacos or a gourmet taco tasting before heading to a live Lucha Libre wrestling event. It's one of the city's most entertaining traditions and a fun way to spend an evening.
Day 3 - Puebla & Cholula
Today's day trip takes them to the colonial city of Puebla before continuing to Cholula, home to the world's largest pyramid by volume. Sitting on top is the beautiful Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, with fantastic views across the surrounding countryside.
Day 4 - Tolantongo Caves
They'll leave the city behind for a relaxing day at the Tolantongo Caves, where natural hot springs, thermal pools, waterfalls, and turquoise rivers make for a completely different side of Mexico. It's the perfect chance to slow the pace and enjoy the scenery.
Day 5 - Teotihuacan & Temazcal Ceremony
Today combines one of Mexico's most important archaeological sites with an unforgettable cultural experience. After exploring the ancient pyramids of Teotihuacan, they'll take part in a traditional temazcal ceremony, an ancient steam bath that's still used today for relaxation and wellness.
Day 6 - Jamaica Market Food Tour
A guided food tour through Mercado Jamaica introduces them to some of Mexico City's best local flavours. Along the way they'll sample traditional dishes, meet local vendors, and learn more about the ingredients and traditions that make Mexican cuisine so special.
Day 7 - San Miguel de Allende
Today's excursion heads to the colourful colonial city of San Miguel de Allende. With its cobblestone streets, beautiful churches, and relaxed atmosphere, it's easy to see why it's regularly ranked among the world's favourite cities.
Day 8 - Traditional Cooking Experience
They'll spend the day in a local home learning to prepare traditional Mexican dishes with Margarita, whose passion for sharing family recipes makes this a really personal experience. After cooking together, they'll sit down to enjoy the meal they've created.
Day 9 - Vikings Game
The trip finishes with the main event as they head to Estadio Banorte to watch the Minnesota Vikings take on the San Francisco 49ers as part of the NFL's international series. It's a fantastic way to wrap up a trip that's been packed with culture, great food, and memorable experiences.
